Who: Anya Marina

Song:  Felony Flats

Soft Rock, almost Pop, with a tinge of both Folk

Why You’ll Adore Her:

Anya Marina is a truly astonishing artist.  She has a voice that is as unique and easy to pinpoint as today’s pop queen’s – Adele.  Anya Marina creates music that is seemingly immortal.  If you like Hana Pestle, Metric, The Head and the Heart or even Mumford and Sons, Anya Marina is the next must-hear artist that should be on your radar. - Jadyn

Who:  To Speak Of Wolves

Song: Rearview Memories

Hardcore with a street-poet soul

Originating from Greensboro, North Carolina, members from other established bands came together to form To Speak Of Wolves. On the surface, this 11-track album comes off as a run of the mill Christian metal album, with screaming vocals and guitar riffs galore. Once you get past that initial layer, there is a raw and genuine feeling that comes across on this disc. An example of this is track two, “Rearview Memories.” This song opens with a girl praying to God about saying goodbye to a loved one who has passed away. Later in this track, there is a boy who is praying a similar prayer. It is deep, unsettling, and incredibly moving. Whether you are religious or not this garners a listen to those who have tried to find meaning in this life we lead. -Randall

NOSTALGIC BAND OF THE WEEK

Genre: Post-Hardcore

Artist: Scary Kids Scaring Kids

Song: Just A Taste

Album: The City Sleeps In Flames

Significance:

I’m an emotionally irresponsible man from time to time. I’ve never been able to bind them in chains, only able to indulge upon them and empathetically connect myself to dark horse songs. Scary Kids Scaring Kids, now defunct, has shown me a gem of a song that holds beautiful sentiment to me personally. With lyrics mixed with sarcasm and pure honesty, as well as the voice of Tyson Stevens, with a lightly placed whine, you embark on a 4 minute journey of solemnity. Along with the easy placed guitar and drums, a song is in creation with such a strong chorus that you couldn’t help but sing along in your parked car on a rainy night outside of your house, waiting to see if love will return to your doorstep. Listen to it, and enjoy it because many bands are influenced by this band.
